Strikingly, while its primary goal was to abolish denominational boundaries and unify all Christians under the sole authority of the Bible, its ultimate legacy became a complex mix of rapid growth and sharp internal division. 1. The Birth of Major American Denominations
Though the movement sought to eliminate the concept of denominations altogether, it ironically birthed three distinct, major religious bodies in the United States and globally:

Churches of Christ: Characterized historically by autonomous congregations, a strict adherence to New Testament precedents, and a cappella (non-instrumental) worship. [1]
