The problem is that the word 'homophobia' is being applied to anyone who whether for religious or secular beliefs or reasoning, plainly and simply disagrees with LGTBQ lifestyles.
Quite frankly, having a different opinion regarding such lifestyles does not in itself qualify in any way, never mind remotely, as being 'homophobic'. Unfortunately on both sides of the fence religious or secular, there are those pushing their own agendas- are willing and able to pursue their biased objectives relentlessly even with violent and discriminate means. I will speak from the vantage point of the bible and the one and only Christianity it speaks of. I neither tolerate nor condone the almost innumerable 'Christian counterfeits' who buy souls with empty promises only to sell them to the devil for the gain of fame and fortune. Whether scriptural or secular they are 'distortionists and contortionists' who peddle their confounding satanic wares and tonics. Time after time since time began the gullible feed on the lies, half-truths, with their grandiose delusions and illusions.

Easily one of the most misused and abused words in the english language today. Homo by the earliest dictionary meaning is a Latin word that means 'man' or 'human'. Later it became a derogatory term applied to homosexuals. When used as a prefix the word homosexual in itself means 'man or human of the same sex' in terms of relationships. Thus 'homo' is a slang derogatory term for homosexuals. Context is everything. The word phobia is a Greek word meaning 'fear'. 'Sexual' by definition is an adjective (1) relating to the instincts, physiological processes, and activities connected with physical attraction or intimate physical contact between individuals. In the context of homosexuality it means (1) pertaining to same sex relationships.
So here is where the misuse of the word 'homophobia' comes into play. In the original more traditional sense of combining 'homophobia' would simply and accurately translate as a 'fear of man'. The problem in applying the word 'homophobia' is in the application of the 'new' word 'homophobia' to an age old type of relationship, that being of same sexes. How new is the word? George Weinberg, a psychotherapist in the mid-1960s, observed the discomfort that some of his colleagues exhibited around gay men and women and invented a word to describe it — homophobia. He died on March 22, 2017 in Manhattan, NYK, at the age of 87. The word 'homophobia' didn't appear in print until 1969 in a pornographic magazine.

Homophobia encompasses a range of negative attitudes and feelings toward homosexuality or people who are identified or perceived as being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBTQ). It has been defined as contempt, prejudice, aversion, hatred or antipathy, may be based on irrational fear and ignorance, and is often related to religious beliefs.
Homophobia is observable in critical and hostile behavior such as discrimination and violence on the basis of sexual orientations that are non-heterosexual. Recognized types of homophobia include institutionalized homophobia, e.g. religious homophobia and state-sponsored homophobia, and internalized homophobia, experienced by people who have same-sex attractions, regardless of how they identify. The word homophobia first appeared in print in an article written for the May 23, 1969, edition of the American pornographic magazine Screw, in which the word was used to refer to heterosexual men's fear that others might think they are gay.
